I've been to the new Denton location of Spiral Diner three times now. It's still pretty much an out of body experience. For so many years we've been driving to Fort Worth or Dallas just to get the goodness that they serve. To have one in town is just amazing!
I started this site to point vegans to the local Denton restaurants so they could find some GOOD vegan options in town. At best we could find a few things here and there. Mean Greens is all vegan and has been there for us for over five years now, but they're not open on the weekends or summers. At long last we have a place that is all vegan and open six days a week!
Not only that, the food is so amazing that many of my omni friends love eating there as well. Good vegan food in a friendly establishment can change hearts and minds. Spiral, we're so glad you're here! Stay awesome and we look forward to visiting again and again.
Just in case you haven't heard, there is a great amount of vegan food to be had when you go see the Texas Rangers this summer!
Because of the great efforts of the folks behind Veggie Texas Ranger Fans, a food cart called BallPark Vegan is located in section 16 on the third base side. It offers vegan foods such as veggie dogs, black bean burgers, tamales, nachos, wraps, salads, fruit, jerky, and hummus. Anything can come with chili, cheeze, or sauteed onions on top. It is all so good and a welcome treat after years of fries and pretzels and, let's face it, bringing in our own food.
Globe Life Park was also recently named PETA's #1 Most Vegan-Friendly Ballpark! So whether showing out-of-towners a thing or two about Texas or having your own summer staycation, cheer on the Rangers and eat well, friends!
We had such a delicious meal tonight at Milpa! It's a fantastic thing to be able to walk into a restaurant and get the same cheesy and flavorful goodness that we remember from pre-vegan days, but without having to ask all of those questions about what's in the food.
We tried the Portabello Fajitas and the Spinach Quesadillas. Next time we'll check out the enchiladas. Did you know that on Wednesdays they have all you can eat enchiladas for $8? Seems like a good time to do just that!
Thank you, Milpa, for putting so much love and attention into your vegan food. We will be back again and again.
And, special thank yous to Spencer and Joshua for sending emails about how great this place is. You are both so right!
Imagine our surprise when we were looking around Whole Foods for these new burgers and found a display and this friendly face giving out samples!
There are a couple of more opportunities to catch the free samples of Beyond Burgers at the Highland Village Whole Foods. Go meet Liz on April 1 from 11-2 and again on April 9, times TBD. She also has coupons!
I think we are all counting the minutes until our beloved Sprial Diner Denton location opens! It will be located at 608 E. Hickory. We are so freaking excited!!
We can also now enjoy Juice Lab's expanded service and menu. They are adding things such as stir fried quinoa, veggie burgers, and vegan grilled cheese. Thanks, Juice Lab!
In other menu changes, the bowllery has really changed their menu. There were tears at the loss of longtime favorites such as the Vair Day and Mega K, but perhaps we will find a new crush. On the plus side, there are FOUR vegan desserts to choose from and now they have espresso drinks! Count us in.
It's a great time to be vegan in little d!
T-shirts are here! Made from eco-friendly fabrics in the USA and printed in Denton, TX. There are unisex sizes of short sleeve and tank styles, and this women's style (pictured). $25 each. Send us an email if you'd like one or have any questions. Thanks!
Can you believe it? Mean Greens is turning 5! They're having a party to celebrate and we are all invited! There will be a special menu, chef demonstrations, and live music. I hope to see many Denton vegans there!
WHEN: Friday, October 14, 2016
WHERE: Behind Maple Hall on the UNT Campus, 1621 Maple Street, Denton, TX 76201.
COST: $7.50 for all-you-can-eat cafeteria meal
Another new piece of information from Dining Services:
This is just the beginning. Mean Greens already has plans to expand their menu options and increase the freshness of their food. This semester, they’re installing a Freight Farm behind the cafeteria. It’s a hydroponic garden built into a specially-designed refurbished freight trailer. Mean Greens has always sourced ingredients from local vendors, and this is as local as you can get. Now they will be able to grow lettuce and other produce right in their own backyard.
What's that? Vegan cupcakes delivered to your door? Yes!
Today we had the opportunity to sample some cupcakes from CJ's Sweets. They have expanded their menu to include vegan cupcakes, as well as gf. Cake and frosting flavors can be combined however you'd like. Here are their vegan menu items:
Vegan Cupcake Flavors-Vanilla, Lemon, Chocolate and Red Velvet
Vegan Frosting-Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Buttercream, Lemon Buttercream and Coffee Buttercream
Shown above are a few additional twists, such as strawberry, coconut, and orange flavors. The cupcakes were really tasty and kid-approved. What a great thing for sugar cravings or parties! You can find them at their website here.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy meeting vegans who work in local restaurants! They always know the best dishes and take time to make sure the order is done right. So the next time you go to Seven Mile Cafe in Denton, say hi to Lauren. She is so kind, also vegan, and even drew a cute cow on our receipt today. Thanks, Lauren!!
Dorothy's Kitchen Table had a fantastic vegan night tonight! The set menu included four courses of veggies straight from local gardens. They served Cesar salad, squash blossom soup, lentils and brown rice with lavender braised radishes, and a raw brownie bite with orange and beet purée. Rachel put together an amazing menu and everything was so good!
If you haven't experienced Dorothy's before, you should know that it's a special place. Patrons can trade services or supplies for their food or leave money in an envelope. Volunteers make it happen every week. Pictured above is a list of needs we saw, just in case you want some ideas.
The other lovely thing about this community restaurant is that everyone is so friendly and supportive. To everyone at Dorothy's, thanks for doing what you do! We appreciated vegan night so much and hope to see many more!
