This is a simple dish that reminds me of the beef stroganoff from my youth! Vegan Saucy Mushrooms1. Chop 1/2 small onion.
2. Clean and slice 1 pound crimini mushrooms. 3. In a cast iron skillet, brown the onion in 1 T oil, then add the mushrooms. Stir occasionally. 4. As mushrooms cook down, sprinkle with 1 t. granulated garlic, 1 t. salt, 1/2 t. pepper. Stir and continue to cook until desired softness is reached. 5. In a bowl, mix together 1/2 container Tofutti sour cream, 3 T. soy sauce, 1 T. vegan worcesertshire sauce. 6. When the mushrooms are done cooking, stir them together with the sauce in a serving bowl. This is shown on top of white rice. It would also be great over hot cooked egg-less noodles, brown rice, etc. My kids prefer it sprinkled with Cholula hot sauce for an extra kick! Serves 4.

Behold, the Pra-Ram at Andaman! This one was ordered with veggies instead of tofu. What you have here is a magical mix of two sauces that don't touch until you start eating. The coconut sauce surrounds the food at the bottom, then the slightly spicy peanut sauce is poured on top. It's amazing!! Be sure to specify vegan when ordering. Beirut Mediterranean Grill Today we enjoyed lunch at the Beirut Mediterranean Grill. It's located where Royal East used to be, and has been redecorated beautifully.
Pictured here is the (mostly eaten) hummus tahini, green zaatar pie, and cauliflower sandwich. My husband ordered the falafel sandwich. All of it was great! The menu is clearly marked with green leaves for vegetarian items, and we asked to be sure ours were vegan. Looking for fresh eats? Give them a try! Yes, friends, vegan happiness! Hypnotic Donuts is offering three varieties of vegan donuts all week long. The Dallas location only serves them twice a week... Go Denton! I took my boys there after school today and we tried them all: glazed, chocolate iced, cinnamon sugar (my fave) and glazed donut holes. They were so good!! Please note: they are closed on Tuesdays. While you're there, get your coffee from the business that shares the space, Cultivar. They make their own almond milk and it is so creamy. Also homemade is their vanilla syrup. We got a decaf iced vanilla almond latte and loved it. So happy to have these two new businesses in town! We'll be seeing them again very soon. **Update** It seems that now they only offer the vegan variety on Mondays and Wednesdays, and they sell out by noon. Please keep that in mind when you plan to visit! And while you're there, help us kindly inspire them to offer vegan donuts more often! Thanks, DentonVegans!
I read someplace that it would be amazing if every restaurant would have at least one clearly marked vegan item on the menu. No customizing or special orders, just something you can order without having to make a big deal out of it. This is that thing at The Chestnut Tree. It's called the Farmer's Salad, and please note that I ask them to add mushrooms. It's got fruit and nuts and veggies and it's pretty darn tasty. So I can take my omni grandma out to a nice ladies lunch complete with fancy tea and YES, order off the menu like a normal person. Thanks, Chestnut Tree! The amazing tofu noodle bowl with vegetarian fish sauce and a jasmine iced tea at Viet Bites! Did you know they opened a second location? It's at Fry Street near UNT.
